Why did you choose to undertake a graduate degree in Law?
I decided to undertake a graduate degree because I wanted to reinforce my knowledge in Law and to broaden my legal background by studying in a common law jurisdiction.
Why did you choose Melbourne Law School?
I chose Melbourne Law School because it is one of the most prestigious institutions and is recognised world-wide. I was also motivated to come to Melbourne because it has been selected as one of the best cities to live in. Now I can assure anyone that both assertions are absolutely accurate.
Describe your career pathway - what is your current role and how did you get to where you are?
I am a Manager for the Tax Division in Deloitte Colombia. I joined this great firm five years ago, starting my career pathway at the lowest position. I devoted my first years of working to learn and gain as much experience as I could and now I can say that this devotion was worth it because I have reached a successful career.
Describe your experience of studying in the Melbourne Law Masters. What have been the highlights so far?
Studying in the Melbourne Law Masters has been an enriching experience. I had the privilege to learn from the most prestigious academics in the tax area and to interact with people from different backgrounds and cultures. This experience has broadened my perspectives and I can say that I am taking with me many initiatives to be carried on in my professional position.
What are you planning to do when you have completed your degree? Where do you think your degree will take you?
I returned to Colombia to re-join Deloitte, as I was on a study leave of one year. I am sure that this degree will catapult my professional development. In fact, I was promoted to Manager shortly before coming to Melbourne, which indicates that my company agrees that I will be better qualified after undertaking my Masters degree.
