Chris Graf

Solicitor
Ashurst LLP, United Kingdom
Current Student, Graduate Diploma in Competition Law

Why did you choose to undertake a graduate degree in Law?
For the broad base of skills it equips you with and because a background in law puts you in a position to be involved in a host of activities and processes which can have a profound impact on society.

Why did you choose Melbourne Law School?
The wide range of specialist postgraduate courses available, its international reputation and its calibre of academic staff.

Describe your career pathway - what is your current role and how did you get to where you are?
After completing undergraduate Law and Arts degrees in Auckland I have spent three years as a junior solicitor in New Zealand's largest law firm. As I have progressively specialised in competition law, the post-graduate diploma in competition law seemed an ideal fit with my current professional goals and will hopefully give me that extra boost as I build my career as a competition lawyer in New Zealand. (Chris now works for Ashurst LLP, a leading international law firm in London).

Describe your experience of studying in the Melbourne Law Masters. What have been the highlights so far?
The academic staff are fantastic. They are all clearly highly regarded in their field and take a real interest in ensuring that students get the most possible out of their course. We have had some fantastic guest lecturers too - a rare opportunity to get a host of insights. The postgraduate program also works in really well with the demands of a full time legal career.

What are you planning to do when you have completed your degree? Where do you think your degree will take you?
I intend to continue practising as a competition lawyer upon completion, but the diploma will hopefully put me in a really strong position to develop my career in New Zealand and overseas.

What advice do you have for others considering undertaking a graduate degree in Law at Melbourne?
