Single subjects
Students who wish to advance their professional knowledge in a particular field, without enrolling in a formal degree, may enrol in any of the subjects offered in the Melbourne Law Masters program as a single subject enrolment. This is a great way to meet Continuing Legal Education or Continuing Professional Development requirements. Melbourne Law Masters subjects have been accredited by the Law Institutes of Victoria and New South Wales and may also meet the requirements of other Australian states and common law jurisdictions.
Single subjects may be taken with or without assessment. Students who do not plan to submit assessment should enrol on an audit basis.
Students can credit up to two subjects towards a masters degree or graduate diploma.
Selection criteria
The Selection Committee will evaluate the applicant's ability to enrol in a single subject using the following criteria:
- A degree in law leading to admission to legal practice (LLB, JD or equivalent) at honours standard or equivalent; or
- A degree in a relevant discipline and at least one year of documented, relevant professional experience.
Students without legal qualifications should bear in mind that the courses are offered in the discipline of law at an advanced graduate level. While every effort will be made to meet the special needs of candidates trained in other fields, concessions will not be made in the general level of instruction or assessment. Most subjects assume the knowledge usually acquired in an undergraduate degree in law or equivalent.
Fees
Per subject: $3,500 each
Audit only: $2,800 each
FEE-HELP is not available for single subject enrolments.
Applications
Applications may be made at any time before the commencement of the subject.
Students should complete an Application for Admission form and submit it with the relevant documentation to the Melbourne Law Masters Office.
