Why did you choose to undertake a graduate degree in Law?
Undertaking a graduate law degree allows me to broaden my education base. I believe it is important to remain flexible and adaptable and one way of achieving that is through higher education. I was interested in undertaking a law degree that was relevant to my work in corporate governance. The alternative was to undertake a graduate diploma with an association that specialised in the area of corporate governance, however I believe a graduate law degree has greater application.
Why did you choose the Melbourne Law School?
My ultimate aim is to undertake a masters degree however, I have a 2.5-year-old daughter and this seemed like a good way to undertake graduate studies without over committing myself. I chose Melbourne Law School because its law degrees are highly regarded. I was also attracted to Melbourne Law School because it is a leader in the area of corporate governance research. I am able to select subjects that are directly relevant to work. I also particularly like the way the week intensive subjects and assessments are structured. Graduate Law at Melbourne caters well for students without an undergraduate law degree. The subjects are practical and have application in the real world.
Describe your experience of studying in the Melbourne Law Masters. What are the highlights?
I find studying stimulating and it provides the catalyst for me to read papers and books that I wouldn't otherwise make the time to read. I enjoy thinking about issues that are broader than the issues I deal with on a day-to-day basis at work. It is also really interesting to meet people who work in completely different areas who I wouldn't otherwise meet.
What are you planning to do when you have completed your degree? Where do you think your degree will take you?
I would like to continue on and convert the Graduate Diploma into a masters. In terms of career advancement I would like to continue to develop my skills and abilities so that I can remain adaptable and make the most of career opportunities as and when they are presented.
